About the project

The book provides the analysis of the development of artistic ideas and work of one of the most prominent 20th century Lithuanian artists of the first half of the 19th century Petras Kalpokas, discloses a little-studied youth period. Much attention has been paid to his teachers and authoritative artists who had matured the artist - Janis Valteris, Vilhelmas Purvitis, Antonas Ažbė, and the tendencies characteristic of the Munich school. The extensive research is based on an abundant authentic material, as well as is valuably complemented by the discovered works of the artist's early creation that allow rethinking the place of Petras Kalpokas' work in the context of national art.
